'The Posh Kid'

A very good friend of mine, Bella, did a lovely feature about me and the blog. Her blog is private but she let me share it with my readers... Thank you Bella! Check out her blog here.

Justine Guy is like the cool girl at the party. You approach her timidly because you like the dress she's wearing and want to compliment her on it, but she shocks you with her kindness. Her blog, The Girl In The Check Scarf is sophisticated and mature without sounding severe and superior. She remains a conversational person through her posts, embroidering them with 'high fashion' editorials and runway photos. Her spot-on reviews of editorials, creative thinking, endless supply of wit, and childish aura are what makes her blog one of my favorites.

Why did you start blogging? What inspired you to create a blog?
When I started really loving fashion, I would smother my mom with collections and articles. None of my friends really cared about it as much as I did, so my poor mom had to listen to be talk about fashion 24/7. One day she was like 'just start a website', so that's what I did! I really enjoy looking through my blog's archives and seeing how my posts matured as my knowledge of fashion grew.

How did you come up with your blog title?
I love Burberry, so the name came from me really wanting a Burberry checked scarf. I love walking around Manhattan and seeing tons of fashionable women wearing them. Just before I started my blog, I read an article in the New Yorker about Burberry. I read a quote from Christopher Bailey saying "People keep telling me it's a plaid, and I'm like no! It's a check!" For some reason I loved the quote so much that I cut it out and saved it. When I needed a blog name, The Girl In The Check Scarf just seemed so perfect and original because it represents my dream of being in the fashion industry one day.

You call yourself a 'fashion obsessed teen'. When did you realize you loved fashion?
When I was little I would sew two-piece outfits for my dolls, but just for fun. I knew I didn't want to be a designer, and I had no desire to go into fashion. My mom let me watch The Devil Wears Prada one day and that's what got me interested. I remember being frustrated because I didn't know any of the names mentioned in the movie. When I was 12, my friend gave me an issue of People Style Watch and I couldn't put it down. I mean, I memorized the pages! I loved knowing what was 'in', and how to put outfits together.

You describe your taste as 'posh'. What does 'posh' mean to you?
Posh, to me, is dressing in pretty clothes. It means being well put together and being polite. Like, the opposite of Ke$ha.

Who are your style icons?
Anna Dello Russo! The woman is fearless! I also love Emma Watson. She never lets me down with her outfit choices, and she's got the whole British style down.

You've mentioned Anna Wintour quite a few times in blog posts. You've said many times that you admire her. Would you consider being Vogue's editor-in-chief?
Oh, goodness no! I do love Anna a lot, but I don't think I could run a publication like Vogue. If I did run it, I think I would push the editorials a lot more. I would also make the format more appealing...it's rather severe! I think I'll just stick to running my blog for now, though. Haha.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm leaning toward a buyer or a trend forecaster right now. I would also love a job that deals with fashion photography.

Who are your favorite designers?
Christopher Bailey, Hannah MacGibbon, Phoebe Philo, Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu, Erdem Moralioglu, and many others as well.

What are your favorite stores?
At Forever 21 I feel very much at home. I also love thrifting.

What are your favorite magazines?
L'Officiel Paris! It has a perfect balance of everything for me, and not to mention perfect editorials. I also like Harper's Bazaar, Vogue Australia, and the old W. I'm sorry to say that I don't really like the new 'artsy' direction that the magazine is taking. I also buy WWD Collection every 6 months.

Do you wear any makeup?
Oh, yes! Haha. I rarely leave the house without slightly-winged eyeliner (top lid only). Foundation and blush as well if I have enough time in the mornings. I also love tinted lip balms and deep red lip glosses.

Do you visit fashion blogs and websites that are non-American? What do you think of non-American fashion blogs and websites?
I would think that about half the blogs I follow are international blogs. I love French blogs because French people tend to have amazing style! I love blogs from the UK too. I love reading international blogs because you get to see lifestyles that you don't usually get to see. It really helps you feel like you are in a global community of people who all have the same interests as you, which I love.

What kind of music do you have on your i-Pod?
A bit of everything! Matisyahu, Benton Paul, today's top 40 songs, loads of stuff. I just listen to music that makes me happy!

What are your favorite books?
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. It made me laugh and cry my eyes out. Everyone should read it. I also love The Book of Mormon. It keeps me focused. I like the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. I spend too much time trying to be efficient, haha.

If you could hang out with someone, living or dead, for an entire day...who would you choose?
Julie Andrews!

Thanks Bella!
