Blogger Spotlight: New Minimalism

Believe me when I say I love Minimalism. I have expressed my love for it in the past, and you can proabaly see it just by looking at my wardrobe and the way I dress myself.
So you can imagine how happy I was when I found New Minimalism on Tumblr- I completley fell in love! This fantastic Tumblr features page after page of fantastic Minimalsit looks and items. I contacted then man behind the blog, Matthieu, and he was kind enough to answer some questions I had about him, his blog, and minimalism in general.

Where are you from?
I live at the West of France.

What made you start blogging, and why minimalism?
I chose to blog about minimalism in fashion to share a vision of fashion that I like. Minimalism fits my idea of what is aesthetically pleasing and I was very curious to see what kind of feedback I'd get. I must say I'm really glad to see how people responded so far.

Do you think that minimalism is just a current trend, or that it's always relevant to fashion?
I'd hate to call minimalism a trend. It has been around for quite some time now. Jil Sander and Helmut Lang for example, didn't appear during the spring 2010 collections. But I'm glad to see that more and more people find themselves loving it because they saw shows like Céline SS10 that introduced them to minimalism.

Do you work in or study fashion?
I'm currently studying Law but I'm planning to study fashion marketing once I get my Law degree. I would love to become marketing director of a high-fashion brand.

When did you start loving fashion?
I’ve always paid attention to how I looked, and I’ve always loved to wear nice outfits. I guess having a mother who takes care of herself 24/7, and who likes to be well-dressed helped a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mother looking bad. She’ll always have makeup on, her jewelry on, and wear a cute outfit even if it’s Sunday and we’re just staying home. It’s a way to “respect yourself and the others” according to her. I remember being on her knees and reading fashion magazines as a kid. From a very young age, I knew what colors looked good together, what fabrics felt good on my skin etc.
After years of reading my mother's fashion magazines, I bought my first Vogue Paris was the August 2005 issue with Demi Moore on the cover. I remember it so well. A white background and Demi wrapped in the American flag. As my interest in fashion kept growing, I discovered great websites where I could follow the collections, I bought VP more regularly, started picking my  favorite models, then my favorite photographers… At that point, Fashion became a passion.

Who are some of your favorite designers/houses?
Among my favorites, you'll find Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Céline, Hermès, Dries Van Noten, Calvin Klein and The Row.

Who's shows are you most looking forward to seeing during fashion week?
I can't wait to see the shows of the designers I mentioned in the previous question, but also the Chanel show. Just for the set actually. Karl Lagerfeld always manages to create some of the coolest ones.

Are there people in fashion whom you admire?
I don't think admiration is the appropriate word but there are some people such as Véronique Nichanian (Hermès menswear designer) that I truly respect.

An awesome interview with a successful an intelligent girl! I've seen the Demi American flag piece as well, and it's inspired me to put together some looks that include an American flag silk scarf .

Couldn't be written any much better. Reading this post reminds me of my old room mate! He generally kept talking about this. I will forward this article to him. Pretty certain he will have an excellent read. Thanks for sharing!
