You've been there: you hear your phone ringing, and you dive into your bag to grab it. In the meantime, you pick up 3 or 4 things that you think are your phone, and by the time you actually rescue your phone from the eternal abyss that is your handbag, you've missed your call. I think I have this problem 2 or 3 times a day. Now, I love over-sized bags when I need them for school books and long trips, but when it comes to every day life, I really only need the basic necessities like my phone, keys, wallet, and lip balm.

Latest Obsession: The Marine Pencil Case By Moochithings
I'm beyond obsessed with this sweet pencil case by Moochithings. The colors are delectable, and the design is so sleek and simple. It's on my list of 'things that I don't need but desperately want.' (Doesn't everyone have a list like that?) Thanks Trendland for the tip!

Big News: IBM Smarter Commerce x The Girl In The Check Scarf!
IBM is embarking on an exciting new campaign all about how we interact with technology. They've hand-picked the participants, and I'm honored and excited to take part in campaign. As far as I know, I'm the only teenager involved, and that really means a lot to me!
IBM has an great service called Smarter Commerce that helps businesses reach their maximum potential by utilizing advancing technologies, and they've asked me to talk about how I use technology to advance my own goals and enhance my life- which is something very near and dear to my heart. From the very start of my life, I've always been fascinated by new technologies and innovation. Technology can help solve problems ranging from 'What should I do tonight?' to 'Let's crowdsource cancer research!'. Because of this, technology is my drug of choice. I literally cried the first time I saw my blog formatted by OnSwipe on a tablet (you can read about that here); articles about 3D printing helped me realize my desire to be an industrial designer; I went to my room and cried when Steve Jobs died; and I'm writing my senior thesis about technology patent wars. I believe that today's advancing technologies are building a better, brighter tomorrow, and I want to help that tomorrow come today by working in industrial design. Technology plays a huge role in my life - classes with Coursera have helped me broaden my horizons; Khan Academy saved me from failing trig; and the internet taught me all I needed to know about the business of fashion. I'm CONSTANTLY finding apps and having experiences with technology that change my life for the better. Now, with the help of IBM, I'll be sharing those experiences with you.
Throughout the month of February, I'll be talking about how technology and social media help me to be a better student, a better writer, a better friend, and a better blogger, using the hashtag #MySmarterCommerce. I want you to join me! As fashion bloggers (and non-fashion bloggers!), we're especially connected to the world around us. So, I pose to you the question: How do technology and social media affect and enhance your life? Next time you have an awesome experience with technology, make sure you tweet me about it (@theposhkid) using the hashtag #MySmarterCommerce. I'll be happy to re-tweet! In my own life, my iPad helps me to be a more efficient fashion blogger- ESPECIALLY during fashion week. It enables me to quickly share tweets about the hottest new collections; it helps me take and edit runway photos; and with awesome apps like Blogsy, I can quickly share my collection reviews with the Blogosphere.
I'm so excited to begin this journey with IBM, and I can't wait to hear all about your awesome adventures-in-technology! Stay tuned!

Erin Barr Spring 2013 Presentation
The models seemed to be playing fashion musical chairs; one would stand up, own the room as her runway, then pick up a book or rummage through a pile of vintage records. Then, that model would tap a friend on the shoulder, and the newly-chosen model stand up and take her walk around the room. It was refreshing to see models interacting, giggling and chatting with each other (it really helps you picture the clothes being worn in a real-life scenario). I can see myself on a dress worn by a happy girl much easier than one worn by a stone-faced statue!
The clothes themselves were wonderful, and it was easy to spot the Marilyn Monroe influcence without having it overwhelm the collection. The theme really brought 'bombshell' to the 21st century. The rigid stripes seen throughout the collection were a nice take on a classic idea- they looked as though they had been painted onto the garment by hand, rather than perfectly printed by a machine.
The collection felt like the wardrobe of a quiet, subdued girl (collared shirts in neutral tones, loose cardigans, long pencil skirts, and beautiful and wearable shirts and pants), but as soon as night falls, her rocker side comes out. Suddenly, those pretty cocktail dresses have cut-outs, and sheer material is everywhere. Although I love the rocker style, the amount of skin shown was just a bit too much for me. I guess I fall somewhere between the quiet library dweller and the rock princess.
Sheer fabric and slits here, there, and everywhere were very prominent in the collection, so the idea of combining the two concepts made perfect sense. Many skirts included a longer outside layer of sheer material slit down the front and back in the garment.
I've become a big fan of Erin's edgy style, and if she can make a coat as beautiful as the one she made for Spring 2013 (a white trench with great shape, three-quarter sleeves, and a leather panel with a zipper detail), I can only imagine the beautiful creations she'll whip up for fall.
