Blogger spotlight!

Meet Sarah Khan from the fantastic blog, Fashionized!

What made you start blogging?
I have a love for writing and a love for fashion. A fashion blog is the easiest, quickest way to bring both interests together. I was mostly inspired by other fashion blogs that got recognition for their stylish authors, although my posts don’t always center around outfit photos.
Got any favorite blogs you check often?
Yes! Fashiontoast originally inspired me to think outside the box in terms of the way I dress. Captivating photo blogs like Sea of Shoes, Luxirare, Park and Cube and Hanneli Mustaparta are also among my favorites.
I also like discovering new blogs or great blogs that are not necessarily popular!

What's your favorite thing about your blog?
I enjoy feedback from my readers. I like being able to inspire people through written articles and DIY posts.

Who is someone is the Fashion Industry who inspires you?
Lady Gaga for sure – I wish I could dress like that every day AND be world famous!
What's your favorite trend right now?
Right now I’m all for girly, feminine dresses and peach tones. But those probably aren’t trends, since I obsess over them every spring, haha.

Where have your travels taken you?
I’m currently at college in Los Angeles! I’m from the east coast though and I’ve been pretty much from Key West to Toronto.
Last summer, I volunteered abroad in Guatemala. It was definitely a cool experience and I’m hoping to do some studying abroad next summer.

If you could work in the Fashion Industry, what job would you want?
Fashion journalist! Or a stylist with an unlimited budget…

Favorite Magazine?
I like Nylon a lot, although I’m not much of a magazine junkie.

Where do you get inspiration from? places, blogs, magazines ect?
I used to draw inspiration mainly from editorials and glossies. But recently I’ve been taking a lot of inspiration from people I see every day on the street or on my college campus.
I notice also that thrift stores and designer consignment stores inspire me a lot, even if I don’t end up buying anything there. I love the mix of high and low in stores like those, and what’s awesome is that no two clothes are ever the same.
Are you studying/have you studied Fashion?
Nope!

Whose fall 2010 collections did you like best?
It’s hard to choose! Chanel, Prada, Rodarte, Marchesa…

Who are your favorite designers?
This is another hard question for me to answer, especially when you’ve never seen a designer’s collections in person.

What's your favorite thing in your closet?
I bought a peach colored, grandma-ish cardigan last week that I can’t seem to take off. Also, I’ve been getting a lot of use out of my thrifted high-waisted Levi’s.

What do you look for in other blogs?
It’s easy for me to spend less than fifteen seconds on a website that seems uninteresting… I think for me, the most important thing is reading a blog that has interesting content. I like being forced to think about fashion in new and different ways.
Visual interest is a big part of it too… fashion is all about the visual, after all. You don’t necessarily have to own an expensive DSLR to take captivating photos, but I think training yourself to take great photos is definitely a huge plus.

If you could spend a day whith anyone, who would it be and why?
Old friends –yeah, it’s not fashion related, I know!

Favorite music?
I love the new Gorillaz album!

Where's your favorite place in the world?
Unfortunately, I haven’t traveled the entire world :P But Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is a pretty amazing place.
Okay, you're given $1,000. what would you spend it on?
 Rent money. Haha.
Thanks!

Getting tall boots to stand up straight...

Tall boots were EVERYWHERE this fall, and I totally LOVE them, but I hate having my shoes just lying around. As you can see... not very attractive...
Sooooo all you need to do is roll up any old magazine and put t inside your boots... like so. This works best if boots are about knee- high.
PS If the magazine you use is too thick the shoe may flop over.
Viola!!! boots that stand up by them selves perfectly straight!

So, hey. I'm new.

Hello wondrous world of blogging! So like it says in the definition thingie under the blog title, I love high fashion with a passion. It all started a couple of years ago when I was walking in manhattan with my grandmother and we needed to stop into Saks 5th ave. I had never even heard of it before. I walked in and thought "Where am I? What is this place? It's so pretty! Look at all these gorgeous wonderful things!!!! I want to just stay here forever!!! Is that a Nancy Gonzales bag? I WANT THAT!!!!!". Then a few months later my friend gave me my very first fashion magazine. That was it. I was hooked. High Fashion is a major part of my life. It' s Artwork you can wear! What could be better then that??? Dior! Chanel! Christian Louboutin! It all just makes me happy. I do dress allot differently then my friends. They will be wearing Old Navy jeans and Converse sneakers. I'll be wearing Skinny Jeans and Pearls. I love looking nice every where I go. I guess 'pretty' or 'fancy' would be a good way to describe how I dress. From a young age I went to events with my mom where I had to look pretty, professional and polished. I guess that has kinda stuck with me all this time. You can see why I love Burberry so much. Like right now, I have on knee high black boots, a gray shirt with small poof sleeves, 2 strings of pearls, and a white cuff bracelet. I'm not even going anywhere today. I can't stand being casual. I have to look nice. Otherwise I feel unproductive. I am pretty appalled by the way most teens dress. You know, sweatpants, baggy pants, HAIR SCRUNCHIES? seriously people? I haven't worn sweat pants in public since...ummm I don't think I have ever worn them in public. I don't own a single designer piece. If I did I think it would be a rachel roy coat or a real burberry scarf. the world of fashion just makes me happy. It's beautiful. It's always new, always changing. It's something is know about. Something I'm good at. Something I truly love. I want to be walking on the streets of paris and wearing jimmy choos. I want to be in the front now of the Zac Posen fall show 2025. Fashion is what I want to do. I want to be a professional High Fashion Buyer when I grow up. Haha I'll let you know how all of that works out for me. :) love, -J
