Happy Thanksgiving!

I currently have this picture on the wall of my room. This dress is just... wow...everything in this shot is perfect.

Happy Thanksgiving from The Girl In The Check Scarf!  I have been helping my mom cook all day, and I'm totally not the cooking type (I once made cupcakes and forgot to add flour. Like I said. So not the cooking type.) I'm just grateful I haven't burned the house down (yet). It's been very interesting day. My dog ate half the apple pie crust my mom was working on, there's a very intimidating sixteen-pound  turkey sitting in my fridge, and I need to wake up at 3am tomorrow so that I can see the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. With all that being said, have a fantastic turkey day!

On The Topic Of Fashion's Night Out...

I recently received this email from a very good friend of mine/ fellow blogger and it made me smile.  I love this girl to death!

Justine-

 I was reading September
Vogue and Teen Vogue and they both had major articles on Fashion's Night Out a.k.a the coolest shopping trip you'll (or I'll) ever have. A few of the people who are going to be there? Hmmm, let's see. Oh yeah! Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Tavi Gevinson. And more.

Annd Alice + Olivia are holding a Cinderella-type contest and one lucky girl will win a chance to walk the runway of their spring show. WHICH COULD BE YOU. It won't be me because I am elf-sized and am also a klutz who will end up falling off the runway and onto Anna Wintour. But
you could and should do it. I mean, you're 15! American Apparel is having a factory sale, a musical performance by Karen Elson at the Balenciaga store on 542 West 22 Street btw. 10th and 11th Aves, and Barneys is hosting the mother of all fashion events:

thou shalt mingle with fashion icons like the rodarte sisters and alexander wang! and tavi shall be shopping and you shall talk to her and compliment her on her red hair and whatever she's wearing! annnnnd there will be ping-pong (yes, ping-pong!), musical chairs, and meet and greet with supermodels and whatnot.

You, Justine Guy, must make a solemn vow to attend said event and kiss Alexander Wang on both cheeks. AND you must tell Tavi that your web-bestie Bella is sad that she couldn't come. BUT MOSTLY YOU HAVE TO GO BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE A FASHION'S NIGHT OUT ATTENDER. And also so you can post pics on your blog. And
also because the whole night is for charity. And also because the likes of Karlie Kloss, Sasha Pivovarova, and Chanel Iman told you to! Just go to http://fashionsnightout.com/ and watch their plea!

I actually burst into tears when my mom told me that I couldn't go. Actually, the conversation went something like this:

ME: Hey mama, did you hear about Fashion's Night Out?
MOM: Oh yeah, I read about it in
Vogue.
ME: Wouldn't it be amazing if we went?
MOM: To New York City? That's way too expensive! And where would we leave Diego (my younger brother)? I guess we could ask Ricardo (my godfather/fashion photographer...not kidding 'bout the godfather part or the fashion photographer part) if we could stay with him, but he works like...six jobs.
 ME: Mama, Tavi lives in
Chicago and she's going to be there. At Barney's.
MOM: Honey, Tavi has people to fly her places.
 ME: ERG! *
Bursts into tears*
MOM: Oh, don't cry sweetie! (Gives me hug.)
 ME: But I
can't miss this! It's like, the coolest event EVER!!!!!!!!

The convo goes on for another fifteen minutes until I retreat to my bedroom to angrily cut things out of said
Vogueand sob over Lula which I wouldn't dare cut things out of.

She doesn't have a problem with going, not at all. She actually liked the idea. But we have nowhere to stay and hotels are expensive. But if you go and send me some pics that would make me feel better.

And if that doesn't happen, I can always turn to Style Rookie for behind-the-scenes pics and whatnot.

-Bella
Have a lovely weekend, Lovelies!

Blogger spotlight!

Meet Sarah Khan from the fantastic blog, Fashionized!

What made you start blogging?
I have a love for writing and a love for fashion. A fashion blog is the easiest, quickest way to bring both interests together. I was mostly inspired by other fashion blogs that got recognition for their stylish authors, although my posts don’t always center around outfit photos.
Got any favorite blogs you check often?
Yes! Fashiontoast originally inspired me to think outside the box in terms of the way I dress. Captivating photo blogs like Sea of Shoes, Luxirare, Park and Cube and Hanneli Mustaparta are also among my favorites.
I also like discovering new blogs or great blogs that are not necessarily popular!

What's your favorite thing about your blog?
I enjoy feedback from my readers. I like being able to inspire people through written articles and DIY posts.

Who is someone is the Fashion Industry who inspires you?
Lady Gaga for sure – I wish I could dress like that every day AND be world famous!
What's your favorite trend right now?
Right now I’m all for girly, feminine dresses and peach tones. But those probably aren’t trends, since I obsess over them every spring, haha.

Where have your travels taken you?
I’m currently at college in Los Angeles! I’m from the east coast though and I’ve been pretty much from Key West to Toronto.
Last summer, I volunteered abroad in Guatemala. It was definitely a cool experience and I’m hoping to do some studying abroad next summer.

If you could work in the Fashion Industry, what job would you want?
Fashion journalist! Or a stylist with an unlimited budget…

Favorite Magazine?
I like Nylon a lot, although I’m not much of a magazine junkie.

Where do you get inspiration from? places, blogs, magazines ect?
I used to draw inspiration mainly from editorials and glossies. But recently I’ve been taking a lot of inspiration from people I see every day on the street or on my college campus.
I notice also that thrift stores and designer consignment stores inspire me a lot, even if I don’t end up buying anything there. I love the mix of high and low in stores like those, and what’s awesome is that no two clothes are ever the same.
Are you studying/have you studied Fashion?
Nope!

Whose fall 2010 collections did you like best?
It’s hard to choose! Chanel, Prada, Rodarte, Marchesa…

Who are your favorite designers?
This is another hard question for me to answer, especially when you’ve never seen a designer’s collections in person.

What's your favorite thing in your closet?
I bought a peach colored, grandma-ish cardigan last week that I can’t seem to take off. Also, I’ve been getting a lot of use out of my thrifted high-waisted Levi’s.

What do you look for in other blogs?
It’s easy for me to spend less than fifteen seconds on a website that seems uninteresting… I think for me, the most important thing is reading a blog that has interesting content. I like being forced to think about fashion in new and different ways.
Visual interest is a big part of it too… fashion is all about the visual, after all. You don’t necessarily have to own an expensive DSLR to take captivating photos, but I think training yourself to take great photos is definitely a huge plus.

If you could spend a day whith anyone, who would it be and why?
Old friends –yeah, it’s not fashion related, I know!

Favorite music?
I love the new Gorillaz album!

Where's your favorite place in the world?
Unfortunately, I haven’t traveled the entire world :P But Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is a pretty amazing place.
Okay, you're given $1,000. what would you spend it on?
 Rent money. Haha.
Thanks!
