Birthday Design Haul! Paper Trail, House Industries, Cavallini Paper Co.

This week, my boyfriend and I spent a day exploring the beautiful town of Rhinebeck, and in the process we stumbled upon the cutest little design and stationery shop in the history of the universe, Paper Trail. I literally could have spent all day there. We stayed for at least an hour, and I used my upcoming birthday as an excuse to buy myself some fun gifts. Happy Birthday to me!

First off, I found this gorgeous book of typography postcards from House Industries. The set is a whopping 100 postcards for only $20. I just couldn't pass it up. It's something I know I'll use for a long time, and it's great incentive to write far-away friends. Also, the cards are stunning. Sometimes I'll just shuffle them and look at each one. I'm so glad I found this. You can purchase it from the House Industries website, or on Amazon.com.

Second, I found this beautiful poster of Brooklyn from Nu Vue Studio. When I'm at school in Utah, it's really easy to get wrapped up in the culture there. West coast is vastly different than east coast, and it's so easy conform to what everyone else out there is doing. So I really like to keep lots of NY imagery around so that I don't forget where I'm from and who I am. This poster is perfect for my fall apartment. Also, it was only $5 at Paper Trail. Just $5. Third, I found a darling little notebook perfect for ideas and sketching from Cavallini. I love keeping it in my bag and jotting down sketch ideas, and the cover is really beautiful. All the pages are girded, making it perfect for my industrial design concepts. It's really a great little notebook for a couple bucks. You can find your own here.

Lastly, I found another gem from House Industries - a couple hundred stickers and labels. The fonts are beautiful and fun, and the stickers are great for mailing letters and making all the things in your life looking a little more designy. I love using these. You can find them here. 

Overall, I've been really happy with everything I found at Paper Trail.  It's a really lovely place. Snoop around their website for more goodies. I'll most definitely be back in the future!

If love and happiness and love and joy could be trapped and bound into a chair, it would be the Cradle chair by Benjamin Hubert. With a hammock-like back, it just seems like a dream come true, and a dream to nap in. I literally want this chair more than I've ever wanted anything in my entire life. Ok, that's an exaggeration. But I might give up my first born for it.

Latest Obsession: The Slapstache

Like a sir.

Mustaches are classy. Bracelets are chic. Mustaches + bracelets? As you can imagine, the result is nothing short of awesome. Ladies and gents, I'm so excited to introduce you to the best thing since the internet. It's called a Slapstache, and it's pretty amazing. The snazzy people at Slapstache sent me a few of their 'staches to play with over the weekend, and I've been wearing them on my wrist ever since. They're super fun, and they've been a big hit with my friends.

They're really comfortable as well — I wore them out of the house a few times because I forgot that I was wearing them. They're an adorable gift for a friend, but they'll also make you really happy if you pick up a few for yourself. See, you can't buy happiness, but you CAN buy a Slapstache. I'm beyond obsessed with this sweet pencil case by Moochithings. The colors are delectable, and the design is so sleek and simple. It's on my list of 'things that I don't need but desperately want.' (Doesn't everyone have a list like that?) Thanks Trendland for the tip!

My New Design Blog- Addicted To Wonder!

I'm so excited to introduce you guys to my new side project, Addicted To Wonder! Addicted to Wonder will showcase all my favorite design ideas, examples of beautiful packaging, innovative products, beautiful typography, and quotes from inspiring individuals. W118 By Walter Baker Spring 2013

The music was so loud at the W118 By Walter Baker presentation that you could hear it from the other side of Lincon Center. I could already tell that this wouldn't be any regular presentation, and the music fanatic within me got really excited. Walking into the venue, you could see the first model dancing to the music while the rest of the Skullcandy-adorned models rapidly bobbed their heads in sync with the heavy beat. The music was a perfect match for the explosion of color on the models!
The collection itself was really incredible, especially the prints and fabric choices. It had a little bit of everything, but it was all so very on trend. Ikat print, florals that look like they're on acid, sherbet tones, yellows, crisp whites, color blocking, oranges, and mirrored prints that look like they were viewed through a kaleidoscope. The cut of the brighter clothes were for the most part very simple. It created a nice balance so that the print could speak for itself. The collection also featured some amazing ombre jackets- something I had never seen before. 

The second half of the collection featured much cleaner lines and ideas. Simple prints let the cut, material, and quality of the clothes stand out. Clean whites with plenty of mesh-like cut outs seemed very fresh when paired with light-wash denim. The cut-outs were on everything from skirts to sleeves to dresses, and I thought they added a nice element of architecture and design to the clothing. My favorite pieces were the blue ombre jacket and the white mesh jacket (not very practical, but very, very chic).

*update*  I can't help myself. The shapes in this collection are amazing. My mind is melting. Forget art you can wear, this is architecture you can wear. Her work reminds me of a more minimal Mary Katrantzou.
