I love this editorial because it showcases glitter and glitz without screaming 'GIRLY'! Rather, it makes gold look tough, strong and warrior-like. Amazing styling choices! I love the oversized bow details at V&R! Despite the fact that the collection is a really avant garde, it's actually one of their most wearable collections to date. I'm always obsessed with the themes that they choose to incorporate into their collections, and I think the bows are gorgeous (and really fun). Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go glue bows to everything I own...

 

Candela Fall 2013 Review: Fashion On The Prairie

Fashion on the prairie; Candela's fall 2013 collection took its 1920's woman on a field trip through the wilderness. Typical grungy pieces - denim shirts, oversized sweaters, and black leather jackets- were given the western treatment when adorned with countless fringes and lace accents. Everyday pieces were paired with short, sparkly flapper-style skirts and lace midis and maxis. I really take note when a collection invents a new styling idea, and Candela did just that. Shiny, beautiful bejeweled headbands and brooches were placed on top of casual beanie hats- I definitely want to try this at home!

Trend wise, the collection was spot on. The fall 2013 collections have been sprinkled with hints of glitter and glamour, and sheer skirts have been popular on the runways. My favorite look was the long pink satin gown paired with a white beanie- quite a showstopper.

Review: Tome Fall 2013

A few of my friends told me how amazing Tome's fall 2013 presentation was last night, so I decided to check it out - hot dang! I died when I saw the first look (the red dress pictured above) and I just kept falling in love with each look that followed it. This collection uses simple-but-precise cuts for a really dramatic, avant guarde effect. The beauty of the collection really lies in its choice of cut and fabric. The pieces are so well planned and minimalistic that they make a loud statement just by being minimal. Also, as an added bonus, they're very on-trend by using burgundy and grey. I've been seeing tons of that this week. Bravo, Tome. Bravo. This up-and-coming brand will definitely be on my radar in the future.

M.Patmos Fall 2013: Stealing From The Boys

During my sophomore year of high school, I had an obsession with vintage blazers- tweed ones, fitted ones, bulky ones, ones with elbow pads- I loved them all! But I quickly found that woman's blazers didn't fit me correctly. They needed to be tailored to fit me, and I just didn't have that kind of dough. Rather than wear ill-fitting woman's jackets, I wore men's blazers which had a looser fit. I still have those beautiful, bulky jackets, and I love them just as much as I did back then. Because of this, I could really relate to designer Marcia Patmos' inspiration for her fall 2013 collection: a housewife who borrows her husbands clothes. The collection beautifully combined feminine pieces and masculine cuts by oversizing cardigans and jackets. The rounded shape of the outer wear really softened up the silhouettes, and mannish sweaters were shown in pink and purple hues.

I love when designers use digital resources to create their collections, so the digitized camo print seen in the collection was a nice update to a tired trend. It made camo relevant to the 21st century! The military influence didn't stop there- I spotted a beautiful olive bomber jacket paired with camo skirt and fell in love with it on the spot!

Often seen in the collection were neck 'funnels' (see the green funnel above) for the girl who likes turtlenecks... Minus the sweater. They're definitey an interesting concept, but I don't know if I'd be brave enough to wear one (unless it was fashion week- you can get away with anything during fashion week).

I really loved the collection's sparkly elements, seen on the camo print below, the shiny burgundy pants, and on a metallic copper skirt- it balanced nicely with the other matte colors in the collection!

New York Fashion Week!

My bags are packed, my clothes are picked out, and I'm on my way to New York Fashion Week! This NYFW is especially important to me because it will be my fifth and last one. With college in the fall (I'm hoping to go to school out west), I won't be here for next season's collections. I really hope I can appreciate every experience this week, and I hope I can be grateful for all the awesome NYW adventures I've been able to have over the past few years. It's been a dream come true to be a teenage fashion week reporter! I have dozens of show invites this season, and I'm stoked to see some amazing clothes.
