Raf Simons To Dior!

image via style.com

I JUST found out via twitter that Raf Simons has been tapped as Dior's new designer. This should be incredibly interesting. I have no doubt that Mr.Simons can do well at Dior, but it just seems like such a clash of aesthetics! I think of Dior as a very luxurious, over-the-top, super feminine house. Raf, to me, is very cool, super minimal and to-the-point with his designs. I perfectly understood Marc Jacobs for Dior because Marc's designs are so fun and whimsical- he would have done wonderfully. But talks fell through between Dior and Jacobs last year. Alber Ebaz, as well, would have been just grand there. But Alber rejected Dior's offer. I was heartbroken when it was announced that Raf would be leaving Jil Sander, but I wasn't expecting this marriage. However, perhaps this would be a reinvention for Dior. It might be nice to get some fresh blood in the house and Raf's slightly more minimalistic vibe might be just what the house needs. We'll find out come July, won't we? I still don't 100% understand this match up, but I am happily ready to be proven wrong.

Before Dior.

I love seeing shots of the collection prior to the runway show! I find it so fascinating to see how a collection comes together.  It's amazing that just the night before the show, 40 of the looks at Dior were still not completed, yet, within 24 hours, everything is finished and ready to present to the public. I was pleasantly surprised and how much I liked the couture at Dior this season, because I really didn't like the fall collection much (and I know a lot of other people felt the same way.) Without Galliano, the order and coherence of the collection was gone. However, the Dior team presented a stunning collection for spring. But to be quite honest, if you give me a collection filled with full skirts, incredible shapes and ruffles and I'm automatically sold!  It was a total flashback to the original creations of Mr.Dior so many years ago. The classic Dior silhouette was there, but the gowns were totally modern and wearable (well, as wearable as couture can be.) J'adore Dior!

Dear Miss Hilton,
Must you constantly make my eyes hurt with your ensembles? Sure Ungaro did hearts for spring,
but it doesn't mean you should  to wear them! Too much miss hilton, too much. Please stop trying so hard. Less is more.

Outside Dior

BURBERRY!!! Fashion show was yesterday! It was pretty amazing. Allot of the people watching were from Tokyo and The Phillipines and they stayed up until midnight to watch..

I took some pics of the show while I was watching, but I thought I would spare you all from my wonderful *cough* photography skills.

I totally fell in love with this coat!

Just a quick quote from Kate...
“John [Galliano] would stand on the runway and tell you a story about who you were. He’d say, ‘You’re a princess and you’ve just escaped from the castle and you’re running away from the wolves,’ and the wolves would be howling on the soundtrack, and he’d send you out, and he’d cry, ‘Run, Kate, Run!’” –Kate Moss when Grazia asked for her favorite fashion moment.
