Review: Katya Leonovich Fall 2012

Photos by moi.
The music was loud and the house was packed to capacity at the Katya Leonovich presentation at Lincoln Center during NYFW. I could barely move around without ruining someones shot or stepping on someones foot! I really appreciated Katya's sense of structure and architecture. She's like a sculptor of fabric! Olive tones and metallic materials were prominent in the fall 2012 collection, and strips of fabric and snake skin were interesting details. I liked the purple-blue print that was inspired by some of Katya's paintings.(I wish I had snapped pics of the paintings!) Although beautifully crafted,  I think that Katya's clothes are more artwork then wearable garments. The collection took the beholder to what felt like Mars with the green jackets and metallic pants, to the space age with the sharp black and white looks, and then to the Flatiron district with the printed looks. I found myself craving more more cohesiveness in the collection. But I digress- I think Katya has a strong point of view on dressing woman. It might be a bit outlandish, but it is a point of view nonetheless. Her dress construction and attention to detail is freaking amazing and really inspiring. See the full collection at NYmag.
What do you think of the collection?

Happy Fashion Week!!!

I'm seriously SO excited for fashion week! It will be my second one as a blogger, and I'm just as excited as I was for the shows in February. I know fashion week doesn't officially start until tomorrow, but today IS the IFB conference, and you can tune into that HERE. I went to the conference last year and loved it all. Today I'll be watching the IFB conference and doing the tedious job of finalizing my outfits (which isn't that hard, mainly because I don't have that many options to begin with. haha). Please stay tuned over the next couple days as a keep you updated about all my adventures! I'm taking part in several exciting things this week that I just can't wait to tell you about! If you can't be in NY for fashion week, don't sweat it. Here are some of my favorite links that will keep you in the loop for not just NYFW, but the entire fashion month!

A list of shows that will be live-streamed online.

Bust Out Your Trench Coats, It's Time For Fall!

I can't wait for fall. You can just feel a certain something in the air (and I'm not talking about hurricane Irene!) and you know that fall is on it's way. Because all the September issues are arriving, flinging their gorgeous editorial-filled pages in my face, it has become very aware to me that fall is indeed on it's merry way, and I couldn't be more excited to put back on my boots and find all my cozy scarves. But along with fall, it means school is coming too ( I start Monday, yikes!).
PS. Can you believe Fashion Week is right around the corner! Holy cow! It's here already!? I won tickets to The Academy of Art show for the second time, and I'm really looking forward to it. I loved it last time! (read about my adventure here) Much to my dismay, I don't think I will be attending the IFB conference in New York. I was pretty upset, because Joe Zee and Coco Rocha will be there (if you know me at all, you know that I adore Coco Rocha. So, so, so, so, so much.). If you will be attending NYFW this fall, please contact me! I would love to hear about your plans.
Have a fantastic weekend, Lovelies.

Visit to W29 Showroom, Part 2. Ashish, Iosselliani, Jennifer Behr

It's time for another glimpse of my visit to W29 showroom!

First on the agenda, Ashish.
I was really looking forward to Ashish because I have been keeping up with the brand for the past few seasons. The collection was very glamorous in a grunge kinda way. Meaning that a sweater would seem very grungy , but when you touch it it feels fantastic.

If there's one thing the collection had no shortage of, it would be sequins. Sequins, sequins, sequins.

The view through a hole in an Ashish sweater.

(front view of the same sweater)

A totally sequined dress with a zipper, exposing as much or as little back as you prefer.

Next up in the incredible Jewelery line Iosselliani
There's some jewwelry out there that you look at and think "Oh Pretty." and then walk away. But with these pieces, oh no! They're really interesting to look at. Each one it's own special creation. I like the diversity in the collection, how some pieces can be neat (like these earrings below) and how some are total jumbles of jewels.

I really adored these rings! That whole trend of wearing-every-bracelet-you-own-on-one-wrist wasn't working out for me so well. But these rings make stacking really easy.

I was ridiculously excited to see the Jennifer Behr creations. I mean, ridiculously excited. I have been a huge Jennifer Behr fan, and I was even more in love with her work after she did the headbands for Fendi fall 2011.
A blue-leather headpiece. Pre-tied for all you turban loving fashionistas.

I was so happy to just be holding this (I'm that lame, I know.), I have just been in love with this headband for so long!

Visit to W29 Showroom, Part 1. Emm Kuo, The Local Firm, Rodebjer

I had a really lovely time visiting the W29 Showroom this week! I was really happy to see the new Fall 2011 collections from seriously great brands (as well as have one-on-one chats with some of the designers!).
So going into it I thought it would be a totally crazy press event with people everywhere. Lucky, I was wrong. It was a peaceful with a really chill atmosphere, and I was lucky enough to be the only blogger there at that time. This was fantastic, because I got to have a lot of time to talk to the designers and see the samples.
Note: I had to use my mom's Droid! So the pics are far from perfect, my apologies. They really don't do the clothes justice.

Rodebjer

The collection, for me, was one of my favorites. The pieces were so elegant and classic. I instantly fell in love the moment I saw this coat. Perfection. (I promise, my photography skills got better as the day went on!) Rodebjer is a Sweedish Brand, and it can be purchased at Urban Outfitters, among other stores. I wish I could own every piece!

I totally fell in love with these pants (yes, they're pants!) The extreme wide leg moved beautifully and I loved the deep red color.

This dress was really beautiful to me. I loved the tailoring and the sheer top!

This skirt was so adorable!!! It only had 2 layers, which was shocking to me because the fabrics were so light and yet the skirt wasn't sheer at all. It moved beautifully. Want, want, want...
Also in the photo, the lovely Amirah who acted as my guide and also occasionally helped me photograph the samples. It turns out, she's also a blogger! See her blog here.

Ever since Christpher Kanes collection a few seasons back, I have been obsessed with Galaxy prints. I found this print to be really gorgeous and original!

Perfect shoes!

Detailing on the back of a coat.

Next up, The Local Firm
Lots of really beautiful dark clothes. I liked the straight silhouettes and the collections use of knits and patches. There was patches of different fabrics or denim mixed with other denim which I found really original.
This is also a brand you can purchase at Urban Outfitters!

A lot of the pieces had uneven hemlines, which I really liked.

It's tailored that way on purpose!

I love it when fashion is ironic, so I appreciated the screen print of a hoody on this T shirt.

Next is the beautiful handbag line by designer Emm Kuo.
I was lucky enough to have a chat with designer Emm Kuo about her inspirations for the line, which included Chinese film noir. Each bag is named after a street she's lived on! So the bags have names like Lafayette Street, Greenwich Avenue, and Rue Vivienne. I loooved this collection! The bags were fantastic when it came to combining style with versatility. You can fit your entire life inside them! The bags are very high quality, and use materials like snake skin and leather.
I loved the round shape of this bag!

Not only does the bag zip open and close, but the two handles can become one.

I was totally in love the moment I saw this bag! It's huge! (there's a soft place in my heart for over-sized bags.)

The designer herself, with the Lafayette Street bag.

I want every piece!  Which is your favorite?

Be on the lookout for part 2!
