Crying In The Middle Of An Apple Store

This is a little story about how I can get extremely emotional about the simplest things. But it's a good story, so I think I'll share it with you. A while back I was contacted by an amazing company called OnSwipe, and they asked me how I would feel about making my blog iPad-friendly. I said yes, of course. Why would I not want my blog to look better on an iPad? And that was that.

I didn't actually get to see this new, beautiful, app-like format in action until fashion week. I was early for a show, so I decided to mosey on over to the nearest Apple store and check some emails. When I was finished, I checked to see how the new OnSwipe format on my site looked.

Holy cow.

It was beauuuutiful. The images had crazy high resolution, it was easy to navigate, and my website looked amazing! I knew it would look good, but this totally exceeded my expectations! I was standing there with this iPad just freaking out. I don't know what came over me, but I was just so happy! I literally wanted to go around screaming  "Hey you! look at this!!! I made this... thing!!!" I guess this blog is kind of like my child, and seeing it in all its iPad glory made me feel like it had graduated college and moved on to bigger and better things. I honestly got a little bit emotional.

I didn't want to miss my show, so I eventually had to tear myself away from all the digital wonderfulness. I was really tempted to run all over the store and pull up The Girl In The Check Scarf on each iPad, but I resisted the urge. Thank you, OnSwipe. You totally exceeded my expectations and made me start crying in the middle of an Apple store.

Away To Fashion Week We Go!

I'm soooo excited for Fashion Week, you guys!!! It feels like I have spent the last month getting ready for it, and here it is the morning of the 9th and I feel so unprepared. Ah. Such is life. I still don't have my outfits planned. I think for most people, that's the first thing they think of. For me, it's the last. Heck, I just finished shopping yesterday. My heels aren't even broken into yet! But something always works out. I'm really excited because I have been lucky enough to get a couple of my outfits/accessories sponsored from some awesome companies like Ainsley, Qi Cashmere, and Craft and Culture. I can't wait to show you the pieces-- they're amazing!  

Today I get to attend presentations from WHIT and M.Patmos, which I'm happy about. Both are brands I deeply love and I can't wait to see what they have in store for fall 2012! 

I feel like this is something that I have been waiting for for a very long time. Instead of a show or two, I have been invited to about 20 presentations-- my most to date. I can't wait to get out there. It's been really testing, though. I promised myself and my family two things-- one, that I would not go to fashion week on Sunday, due to my beliefs in keeping the Sabbath day holy, and two being that I would not go to fashion week on my little sisters 12th birthday, which is the 15th. Because of this, naturally, it's like every single show is on the 12th and 15th. How unfair is that? Due to this, it has cut my shows in half, which is something I have been a bit sad about. But I believe what goes around comes around, and I hope that something good comes of my choices to honor my commitments. I still get to attend four whole days of fashion week, and I'm determined to make the best of them!

With that being said, I'll talk to you all later. I need to go get my outfits together.

Six Things I liked at Aisnley Spring 2012

The inspiration behind Aisnley spring 2012- Palm Springs! It really makes you wish it was summer again, doesn't it?

1. The Kristen Shirt

This shirt was my favorite in the collection! I'm obsessed with the smokey tones, asymmetrical hemline and brown/grey combination. Want want want...

2. The Reese jacket

I love this so much it hurts. It can be worn down (as seen in the second picture) or the ends can be buttoned up for a cool twisted look. I can see myself wearing this all the time.

3. Butterflies!

This print is so fun and original! What better way to celebrate spring than with colorful print?

4. Elbow Patches

I am a huge lover of elbow patches (have posted about them here), so I was especially smitten by this awesome jacket/blazer. I mean, come on now. Elbow patches, asymmetrical hemline, easy to wear, and duel-toned. I'm in love.

5. Tweed + Fabulous Fur

I saw this coat and I instantly said " Can I try this on?" But being a blogger, not a model, there is always the same problems. First, the jacket is a size two. Secondly, I am not a size two. But I went for it anyway.

Ah, the trouble with having curves. But it doesn't matter. The coat is beautiful anyway. I never got to show you this look from fashion week! Skirt is Vintage, blouse is JC Penny (Ah, wearing JC Penny to fashion week. Welcome to my world.) and the metal cuff is Forever21. Coat is Ainsley.

This is another great Ainsley coat.

Visit to Qi Cashmere, Part 1

A rainbow of sweaters by Qi!

You know how there are just some brands that you adore, and you stalk their website often and dream of one day having a jacket or accessories from that brand? For some people, it's Chanel. For others, that brand is Gucci or Balmain. For me, it's Qi Cashmere. I'm a huge lover of cashmere and wool in general (if you missed my outfit post for We Love Wool, see it here). I really love Qi Cashmere, because of their gorgeous designs and quality clothes. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I was invited to visit their offices and see the Spring 2012 collection myself during Fashion Week! So without further delay, here is what I liked best at Qi.

They have the prettiest clothing label I have ever seen.

I wanted to kidnap this skirt and wear it right away. The color, pleats, length, it's just so now.

There's nothing wrong with a hole or two, especially when it's arty and in an unexpected place.

I loved the shine in the knit! (Which is also featured in the previous photo.)

I couldn't get over just how much I loved this sweater! While I liked it in photos, I loved it in person. Something about the two colors knitted together was really gorgeous to me.

More duel-colored loveliness. *sigh*

If you're like me, it can be hard to find chic hoodies that look great and don't have "AMERICAN EAGLE" splattered across the chest. So I really appreciated the concept of this simple white knit hoodie. I really need one of these in my life.

I love the sleeve on this!

These stripes were so lovely, and I liked that they change in width throughout the shirt.

I have been in love with slits ever since Alexander Wang and Celine started doing them not too long ago, and I liked the fact that some of the sweaters had them! Holes, slits...this whole collection makes me want to cut up everything I own.

Mmmmmm. Cashmere.
