My Fashion Week Diary.

Fashion week, oh fashion week. As stressful and crazy as it is, I still manage to really enjoy all the hubbub. I was going through my notebooks from the shows and I realized that I wrote down what I did with my time for one day of NYFW. I though I would share it with you guys! So, here it is.  What happens when a 16 year-old attemps to take on NYFW. (I'm warning you, it's not always glamorous.)

- It's early in the morning and I somehow have managed to splatter Starbucks hot chocolate all over my shirt while I'm in my fashion week outfit. This would only happen to me. 

-I realize that I'm just a child. Fashion people don't spill things on themselves. Duh.

-Get to a showroom after roaming around the garment district trying to find their building.

-Notice that Vivienne Tam is in the same building. Resist the urge to stop in unannounced.

-Arrive at said showroom and notice that a lady in the office is wearing the awesome Prada creepers from the spring 2011 collection. Feel intense jealously.

-See the some fantastic spring collections. I can't wait for spring to come! Color and prints everywhere.

-Walk to Lincon center after the showroom visit. Micheal Costello from Project Runway walks right past me. What the heck?

-Notice the Cynthia Rowely Glambulence at Columbus Circle and wait in line for at least 45 min before I get my hair done. 

-I met some lovely people in that line. A woman from Moet Hennessy, a designer, and friend of Deborah Lippman. She tells me that Deborah is a fantastic Jazz Singer. Who knew???

-The hair stylist could tell I was Jewish because of my "Smooth hair and clear skin." I told him it was clinique. He thinks it's genes. Then, he proceeds to convince me to get Keratin treatment.

-I pick up some Cynthia Rowley for Band-aid Band aids. They're adorable! There are now one hundred little models on my thumb.

-I dash off to Lincon Center and view the festivities. I make a pretty cute tote bag at the Rowenta booth.

-Waris Ahuwalia walks past me. Is this real life? 

- I feel sick from all the commotion and noise and sit outside on the fountain so I can get some air.

-See a lady walking by who is dressed in a ridiculous bathing suit with stripper heels and a Las Vegas headdress. It gets quiet as everyone just watches her walk by. I look at the woman next to me, she looks at me, and we both start laughing. It was awesome.

-I comment on the the Chanel nail polish that the woman on my right is wearing and we strike up a conversation. She works at NYLON magazine and we get some pictures together (hey @itsmeAddieT!).

-I remember that I actually have a show to catch and I get in a little late, but I get in line. 

-I start talking to the girl next to me, and it turns out that she's sixteen as well! (Hi Ashley!)

-We notice that two Project Runway contestants are in line just ahead of us, Becky and Cecilia.

-Seating at this show is based on first-come, first-served. So I'm in the seventh row. Dangit.

-The show manager says she wants us to fill some seats. Some blonde gitl in a mini dress trys to cut in front of me and I cut her off.  I end up in the fourth row.

-The show is lovely, and the clothes are great. Nigel Barker and Robert Verdi are here, among others.

-I see one of my favorite models, Nimue Smit! And the up-and-coming model, Alex, who is my favorite new face of the season. Her talk is so ethereal. I took frantic notes during the show.

-My dad says he didn't hate the show (it was his first fashion show) and he complains that he felt so under dressed. (Oh yes. My dad was there. This is the downside of being only 16.)

-I hit the train and go back home. I'm so tired and all I want to do is collapse, but there's work to be done.

- My dad got bored and borrowed a copy of The Daily from me. I get a brilliant shot. (He hates this picture. I love it.)

-Read as many blog posts and view as many new collections as possible before hitting the hay. Write a rant about color on the Spring Runways (which you can see here. haha)

-I realize that all the people who I meet during fashion week who tell me 'Hon, you'll go far in this business"may actually be telling the truth. Then I start feeling like Hannah Montana because I realize I'm in the city for fashion week one day, but I need to be back in time for school the next day because of  chemistry test.

Blogger Spotlight: We The People

We The People is a darling street style blog, featuring ordinary people in extrodinary looks from all over Australia. It's quickly become one of my favorite blogs, and the looks are so inspirational! Check out the interview I had with Jessie, the girl behind the brilliant blog!


What inspired you to start your blog, We The People?

A couple of years ago I started reading fashion blogs, and it didn't take long before I became completly addicted. I realised I was dedicating so much time to reading blogs that perhaps I should contribute to the blogging community and create my own content. I wasn't entirely sure what the focus of my blog would be, but then my boyfriend and I did a stint through South East Asia and I fell in love with photography, so street style seemed like the obvious answer.

Is there a certain something you look for when you're shooting street style?

Definitely. It's more about a personal charisma and style rather than being fashionable. Confidence and charisma translate well on camera, and for me that's what makes an interesting image.

Do you believe that people in Sydney have their own special style?

I've only been here for six weeks so I'm yet to figure that out. Compared to Wellington (where I'm from) there is a lot less layering and a lot more dresses. 

Can you tell us about any experiences you've had while shooting?

Nothing too out of the ordinary has happened while shooting, but I'm always stoked to be meeting such great people on a daily basis!

Where do you shoot? 

Anywhere and everywhere, I always have my camera with me.

Who are some of your favorite designers?

Celine (If only I could afford it!), Alexander Wang, Miu Miu, Zambesi, Karen Walker, and Acne.

What do you enjoy about Sydney Fashion Week?

I'm haven't been yet, I'm looking forward to going next year. In September I went to New Zealand Fashion Week which was very full on and a lot of fun. It's great seeing designers work come to life through such unique, conceptual shows. 

How would you describe your own personal style?

Classic, minimalist and a little bit grunge.

Do you have any advice for people who want to shoot street style?
Make sure your confident with photography before venturing out, you want to be able to take the right shot reasonably quickly to make the whole process as easy as possible for your subject. Have fun, be friendly and polite and people will reciprocate!

What made you start blogging?
Well, after following a lot of people on Tumblr I decided to make one myself 
 and it's really fun! But I post pictures mainly for inspiration and meeting other people there, so I wanted to make a blog at Blogspot too:) I don't think I have an unique style or something, just want to share my passion for fashion!

What's your favorite thing about blogging so far?
Actually I was really surprised on how many comments I've gotten!:p I haven't been blogging on Blogspot that long, but people seem to like my blog, so it's really nice to hear from the people who read it. Also, meeting people that has the same interests as me. There aren't many people where I live who has the same interests as me, so it's really fun getting to know people from different countries!

What's your favorite trend right now?
I don't know actually. I guess I'm kinda into the leopard trend, but mainly on bags and purses, I think. Oh, and the aviator jacket is really cool. Definitely buying one soon.

Whose Spring 2011 collection are you most looking forward to?
Alexander Wang! Oh, I love that man so much. I was a little disappointed with his A/W 2010 collection, but I'm pretty sure that this collection will be awesome. And Acne of course, my favorite brand. I don't think they've ever made I shoe that I didn't want to buy..

If you could work in the Fashion Industry, what job would you want?
Anna Wintour's job! Haha, no, I think I would love working as a stylist. It would be fun being Rachel Zoe's assistant for a while or something, to learn and be inspired.

Are you planning studying Fashion?
Yes! When I'm done at the school I go to now (here in Norway), I plan to move to London. Hopefully, I'll get in to London College of Fashion, that would be amazing.

Favortite Designer?
I absolutely love Alexander McQueen, and I was devastated when he died. My mom and dad thought I was a crazy person when I cried, because I didn't knew him. But his collections wasn't just clothes, but art. I really loved his last collection, it was so amazing. So I really miss him. Alexander Wang is also a favorite.

Do you have a favorite magazine and why it it your favorite?
French Vogue. I love french, and even though I can't read it, I love the language so much that I pretend like I know every single word. Haha:p The editorials are really good too, and I love the last cover with Freja on it!

What's your favorite piece in your closet?
A white blouse that I use a LOT. It has these big pockets, which I love, and I so comfy to wear.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be and why?
Rachel Zoe. I would ask her if she could learn me as much as she could in one day. That would be really fun! Wouldn't mind spending a day with Karl Lagerfeld either, he's a genius. Or one day with Acne! Haha, I can't decide..

Where's somewhere you'd love to visit?
New York!

Hello lovelies! Ny fashion week is OVER. whewwww. I'm tired. Haha I made a goal to watch every single show. 20 down, 150 to go.

This was taken backstage at Alexander Wang.

I think this is how everyone should walk everyday.. minus the 'no arm swinging'. I think That's fine.

 

Jason Wu By far was one of my favorite shows. Everything was so pretty.

I saw lots of this nutual camel color. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rayna's hair. 

This Rebecca Taylor dress was one of my fav looks from the entire week. It's so perfect. I would wear it in a heart beat.

Ports 1961 Fashion show will be live tomorrow

Hey! I know I normally don't make more then one post a a day, but this morning I found out something pretty exiting! Ports 1961 will be streaming their show LIVE online! Just like Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs. All you need to do is be log into Vogue.com tomorrow at 3pm EST to watch the show.  I LOVE  Ports 1961! Enjoy the show.

Are you seriously telling me that the Rodarte show will be live!? I love you.

It was a little weird. I couldn't understand a single thing she said. The sunset near the end was absolutely gorgeous. As another side note, I just found out that Burberry, Alexander Wang, Rodantre, AND Calvin Klein will be available to watch online during fashion week! Ahhhh I totally love this! I'm actually calling a friend of mine just before the Marc Jacobs show on the 15th so we can 'watch' it together.
