A 1950's Weekend

(Some of us, I'm second to the right.)
I had such an awesome weekend! I and a bunch of my friends attended a Decades Dance and our group was assigned the 1950's. Other groups had the 1920's, the 1970's, the 1980's, and the future. All my guy friends showed up in awesome greaser costumes, and all my girls had adorable poodle skirts. It was so fantastic. The music came from various decades too, so one second you're jumping around to Rockin' Robin, and the next you're dramatically voguing to Beat It. It was so much fun!

Due to this, I've been feeling all 50's-y lately. (Which is never a bad thing!) I already love wearing the 1950's silhouette, so I was excited to throw on a poodle skirt and some converse. Now, I get to spam you with fantastic 1950's images.

I'm so envious that my grandparents got to be teenagers in this decade. Awesome music, great clothes, Elvis, and drive-in movies. I should have been born in another decade.

I'll Be Back Before You Can Say "Celine Boston Bag". (But please say it realllllly slowly.)

Hey Lovelies! If you have noticed, this past week's postings have been totally random and sparse. My apologies. Between school, work, and other fashion-related endeavors, it's been one hectic week! But thank you for your continuing comments and support. I love you guys more then you know! Another reason I have been so busy is because I'm getting ready to go to Utah for a week to visit some friends with my little sister! I'm so terribly excited and I honestly can't wait. I have been packing and picking up last minute things. I leave tomorrow night and I'll be back next Saturday. Because of this there won't be any posts for a week. But thank you so much for your patience and please feel free to go through the hundreds or archived posts that you may not have seen before. So I bid you Au revoir, and I'll be back in a week! Have a beautiful week, Lovelies.
Love, SJ

PS. I'll be visiting in Aspen Grove, which is legitimately the most beautiful place on earth. See for yourself. All the leaves are changing right now, and it's gorgeous beyond words!

The Best Headband I Have Ever Owned

I picked up this headband at Claire's not too long ago, and I must say, I'm in love with it! I don't know how I managed without it in my life. I wear it frequently, and it adds a perfect touch of elegance to an outfit. I adore it! It's really a one-of-a-kind item and I haven't seen anything else like it. It's my favorite buy of the summer. The best part? It cost me less then $8. Greatest. Headpiece. Ever.

PS. Yes, I did survive a day at six flags. I rode one roller coaster and I realized that roller coasters petrify me with fear (actually, I realized that they petrify me with fear when I was on El Toro and it was just about to drop). So after avoiding all roller coasters, the rest of the day was pretty awesome :). The only downside was sore feet and sunburn. All in all, a very good day. I recommend riding the Superman and the Batman.

Luna Park

I'm in love with these shots! The dress-with-a-jacket idea styling concept was one of my favorites from the fall collections. I also thought it was very fitting to post because I'm going to Six Flags today, and it's going to be my first time on a roller coaster. Yikes!

Brief Update + Road Trip Pics

Sorry I have been so absent, we've been on the road for the longest time. I'm in Indianna right now! It is, in a word, humid. I thought New York was bad, but it doesn't at all compare to how humid it is here. It's crazy. I'll never complain about NY humidity ever again.
Over the last week, I and my friends have driven through Colorado, Utah, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. I spent the last week in gorgeous, hot Utah. Mainly in Provo. It was a fantastic experience. I got to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir preform live, and I got to see Temple Square and the Church History Museum. Really, really, cool stuff. Also, I turned 16! Ahhh!
My favorite state by far was Kansas. My friends thought I was crazy, but I loved it because of the plains and farms and open spaces. I don't think I have ever seen the horizon quite like that before. I found it really stunning.

Goodbye house!

The clouds on the plane just blew me away!

On my second day in Indianna we went to Dillard's and I was happy to find some gorgeous Ilana Wolf pieces. (Remember Ilana Wolf? I posted about meeting her here)

We ran over to Build-a-Bear to make my friend a birthday present. Who knew teddy bears were so expensive...
(My wallet is from PaperWallet, It's the greatest wallet I have ever owned. It takes up next to no room and it has enough space for my ID, Bills, and essentials. I love it so!)

Ozzy glasses, anyone? I wore these all week long!

Oh hey Arch.

And here, my friends, is my beloved Kansas. I miss it already.

Colorado

Hopefully I'll have more pics to come!

It's Summer Time, It's Adventure Time

I'm ridiculously in love with these photos, the first one being of of Eartha Kitt from 1952, and the second from thelocals.dk. They just scream summer to me!

Well readers, I did it. I finished. I survived the ups and downs and trials that come with sophomore year, and I came out alive. Don't get me wrong, it's been one heck of a school year! But now, it's time to put the books into stacks I won't ever look at again, and to take all the ACT prep tests and put them into boxes. I don't want to think about school again for at least 3 months. Right now, the only thing on my mind is summer summer summer.  I know everyone's pretty excited for summer, and I am no exception. I'm. So. Excited. For. Summer.
As we speak, my bags are packed and ready to go, and my plane ticket is sitting next to me. I mentioned this in previous posts, but I'll be going on a bit of a vacation. It's really going to be something! I'll fill you in more about it and I'll hopefully have some pictures to share with you when I get back. I'll be gone for a whopping 3 weeks, and I'm crazy excited. During that time, I'll have had turned 16! (Something I'm not sure I'm terrified or ecstatic about.)
I really want to take a bit of a break from so much technology while I'm away. I'll still be posting, but not as often. Keep following though! Because I'll be keeping you updated on my adventures (or misadventures) and also continuing to share my favorite fashion finds.
And now, my dear friends, it is time to bid you adieu. I'll miss you terribly and what will probably end up happening is I'll be posting more often then someone 'on vacation' should be posting (blogging is my addiction... I don't know if I'll be able to keep away.)
Before I dash off to finish packing, here's to a fantastic, wonderful, exciting, and magical summer. Here's to a summer filled with new friends, old friends, laughter, family,  new memories, new moments to cherish, and plenty of new adventures.
I'll miss you.
Justine.

Well, It's Spring Break.

I have this picture tacked up on my wall right now. This McQueen dress has been inspiring me since the first time I saw the collection (spring 2007).
Hello! I just wanted to give you guys a heads up that it's spring break here for the rest of the week, so I want to apologize in advance if I post less then usual. Have a beautiful week, and a happy Passover and Easter!

Fashion Week Update

Hello Lovelies! I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get a post together. I was staying at my grandparents house last night, and they had no WIFI.
So let's start at the very beginning (it's a very good place to start). I arrived at grand central station (my very favorite place in the world) around 7am. I made it to the IFB conference a little early, and I was able to check in. The conference was fantastic! The first panel  was my favorite because it had Mr.Newton and The Man Repeller. Leandra (from The Man Repeller) was sooo super nice. I just had to get a picture with her.
I am having the best time spotting designer goods on people. I literally just told the lady next to me "I love your shoes! Valentino? " "Yes!". It's so much fun for us fashion nerds. I'm having fun meeting loads of people. It's great being in a space where someone can say "What do you think of what Franca Sozzani said about bloggers?" and in my head I'm like "Where have all you people been all my life!" I also got to see the Proenza Schouler boys yesterday. I wanted to scream, but I held myself back. It was awesome to hear what they had to say. Today is the last day of panels, so all that's left now is the fashion show tonight. Then it's the end of my fashion week adventures. But there's a hefty list of online shows, and there's plenty of street style blogs to keep me in the loop. The only thing I'll REALLY miss are issues of Fashion Week daily. They're addictive. My camera is currently MIA but when I get it back I'll have plenty of street style photos for you.
I've spent a mojority of my time in Chelsea/the Meatpacking district. I LOVE it. It's the perfect place and there's something interesting around every corner. Obsessed with Chelsea!
When I get home, I can give you my notes from the IFB conference.

Enjoy the rest of your fashion week. (Everyone here is so well dressed. It's fantastic. I have seen enough samples to last a life time.)
... There are four chanel bags within a 10 foot radius of me at the moment. One Balenciaga, 2 camel coats, one Goyard, a photographer, and 9 pairs of stilettos (one of them being my own). This is fantastic.

I also stopped by the Alexander McQueen store in that's a block away from my hotel.  RIP, Lee.

Let Us Away (To Fashion Week!)

Here are my tickets to the Academy of Art University fashion show! I'm ridiculously excited. My train leaves at 6am tomorrow, and that should give me enough time to make it to the conference at 9am. I have my outfits all picked out and lint-rolled, my trusty purse is filled to the brim with business cards, and I'm in the process of packing. I have had so much fun getting ready for the show and the IFB conference. If only I had a dime for every time my dad has said "There's a conference for fashion bloggers? What?"

I found this hat today ('found' meaning I found it in mom's closet) and I love it! I'm planning to wear it tomorrow. It's a wide brim, and it reminded me exactly of the hats in Marc Jacobs and Prada's S/S 2011 shows. I think Hermes did some too. I love this thing! (sorry for the bad picture quality)

In other news, Jason Wu's Fall 2011 inspiration board was released! I loooove it. It's so elegant and I can only imagine what the collection will look like.

Happy Fashion Week, Lovelies!!!

Winter Photoshoot

I had a fun time last week with a photo shoot with my friend Cassie from Converse is the new Prada! She's got some great photography skills (this is obvious because she managed to make me look pretty nice, and I'm far from the ideal model).

(I'm not sure what's creepier... the fact that the photo on the right is my actual eye color, or the fact that I'm so darn pale I look like a vampire...)

Silent

Gorgeous photography, hair and make up!

I had such a fun day today. I had some interviews in the garment district, and one of them involved nearly bumping into Yigal Azrouel (which was worth the trip on it's own). I also got to go to Bergdorf Goodman. I love doing that kind of thing, and seeing the clothes you love so much. My favorites, were Jason Wu, Celine, and Givenchy. Is it bad that a Jason Wu dress can make me emotional? I worry about myself sometimes...

Happy Birthday, Blog!

So here we are! One year, 240 posts later!
It has been such an adventure and I have loved every bit of it! Thank you so much for all your comments, emails and support! Thank you for reading my blog. I love you Lovelies so much! I have learned so much through this blog and I have made so many friends from around the world. It has helped me gain knowledge of journalism and increased my knowledge of fashion drastically. Thank you for wanting to hear what I have to say and for letting me express myself. I know everyone says it, but I truly love blogging. This blog is always on my mind whether it's post ideas or ways to make it better. I have gained so much and my love of fashion has grown immensely. I really just started out because I knew that I loved fashion, but now I really see that it's something I want as a career. Since the blog has started, I have become a fashion student and had multiple internships (all brought about by the blog!). I'm really unbelievably thrilled at how big the blog has gotten. I have enjoyed this experience more then you know! I always love hearing from you, so drop me a line whenever you can. Once again, thank you thank you thank you, and happy birthday, The Girl In The Check Scarf. Love, Justine.

(I did this for the 6 month mark and I thought I would do it again!) Here are my favorite posts after one year...

It's always been about the inspiring photography that I love so very much.

... I seem to have developed an odd obsession with Balloons.

I can't even begin to count how many posts I have done about red lipstick! Love it.

Celine! Helped me develop a love of simplicity. And I really recived a love of Celine, Chloe and Hermes via the blog.

This image is one of my favorites ever.

I turned 15!

I'm still a brunette! Yes, red hair is GORGEOUS but I like being me.

No, no trips to Paris just yet. But don't worry. It's gonna happen.

It's all about the matchy-ness.

Still crushing on this guy!

This post barley just went up, but it's already one of my favorites!

I love old books.

Whimsical editorials are the best editorials.

I think I have posted every good Emma Watson photo I can get my hands on! I love this girl.

Shoes and chic kids. Oh yes.
